Digital Image Request and Use Policy

The Loutit District Library maintains a collection of archival materials and photographs in the Local History and Genealogy Department. The library is happy to provide digital images from this collection for personal use, exhibition, publication, and other uses. The library reserves the right to deny any request for any reason.

Please keep in mind all requests are subject to the following conditions:
• Library staff approval
• Physical condition of the item
• Donor-imposed restrictions
• Copyright laws
The Loutit District Library is not responsible for any misuse, infringement of copyright, or other legal violations committed by researchers or users of its collection.

There is a limit of 10 items per order. If more than 10 items are required, another order may be placed after the initial order has been filled. Due to staffing and time limitations, Loutit District Library is unable to guarantee the fulfillment of requests within a specified timeframe. If patrons require a larger quantity of images or in-depth assistance, an appointment with department staff may be necessary to ensure the library can best support their needs.

Each image reproduced in a printed publication of any type or form, in an electronic publication, on an Internet website, posted to social media, or made accessible to the public an any way must be accompanied by the following caption directly above, below, or beside the image: Courtesy of the Loutit District Library, Grand Haven, Michigan

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photographs and other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Therefore, the requester assumes all responsibility and any attendant liability for copyright infringement or violation of other rights of third parties that may arise through use of the requested materials, and further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Loutit District Library from and against any and all damages, claims, expenses, and other liability, including reasonable attorney’s fees, arising out of or related to use of the requested materials. In most cases, the library only holds the physical rights to the images requested.
